Grumbling Israelite

I've spent a lot of time here crying or complaining so far. I'm looking for England to to be the USA and it isn't. And I'm looking for familiar faces that aren't here. Yet when we to church yesterday, God convicted me of grumbling against His providence. We sang Be Still My Soul, a comforting and familiar hymn:

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.

And we also read from Psalm 121:
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

These are very apt reminders for me as I long to be home and covet the things of others. The Lord is good to show us our sin and bring us to repentance, yet He is gracious and doesn't overwhelm us by showing us all of wickedness at once.

You can check out our new church at their website: www.calvary-brighton.org.uk It is a small but friendly congregation. We were invited to spend the afternoon with Steve and Brenda, and several others from the church came as well. We look forward to worshiping there again.
